about
This is the first cover that I've ever recorded. The original recording by the great Al Wilson was released in 1967. Wilson had an all-star team involved in helping him to create the record. Willie Hutch wrote the song, Jimmy Webb was the arranger, and Johnny Rivers was the producer. "Who Could Be Loving You" was released on Rivers' Soul City label. The song was also recorded by Dusty Springfield, among others.
I have no illusions that I can fill the shoes of Al Wilson, who was one of the greatest voices in soul music history. So I think of this as a tribute, an homage.
lyrics
Though you hold me the same old way
Your tenderness, is fading fast
And I keep waiting, anticipating
Which moment will you choose to be our last
And I'll be left with nothing but
The thought of you
So clearly, I can see that day coming
When you're resting in the arms of someone new
I'll be running around and searching for you
Wondering where can you be?
Who could be loving you other
Than me?
Where can you be?
Who could be loving you other than me?
You used to tell me
Much how much you loved me
And I could always depend on you
You needed a friend so I took you in
Now I get the feelin' that
Darling, we're through
I wish that there was something
I could say or do
But I'm afraid it would only make matters worse
I can feel your love fading for me
'Cause I know so well how it used to be
Where can you be?
Who could be loving you other than me?
Oh, where can you be?
Who could be loving you other than me?
I can give up material things
'Cause they're not a necessity to me
But when it comes to giving up the only love
I've ever known
I just don't think my heart would agree
Where can you be?
Who could be loving you other than me?
Oh, where can you be?
Who could be loving you other than me?
