about
If you were a teenager in Atlantic City back in the day you hung out every night on the stretch of Boardwalk between Chelsea and Morris Avenue. It was known simply as Chelsea. This is a song about one crazy Labor Day weekend in the late-'60s. We didn't know it then but that world we loved was about to end.
lyrics
I was hanging out with Lucy
I swear I saw her moving
I was out of my head last night
Radio in my car
Mason Williams on guitar
Now I’m hiding my eyes from the light
Someday when we talk about summer
We’ll wish we had another day like this
So live it while you can
You won’t regret it then
You never know what you’re gonna miss
The Geeter’s on a role
David Ruffin’s king of soul
Let’s gamble on a submarine race
Later I suppose
Down at Hi-Hat Joe’s
Some angel will be filling her face
I swear that every kid in Philly
Has found their way to Jersey tonight
They’re down from Cheltenham
Dancing in the sand
Monday morning’s nowhere in sight
CHORUS
Where are all the Chelsea girls
There used to be a different world
Keep your memories close old friend
Every summer has to end
Where are all the Chelsea girls
They’re living in a different world
And if only they could come back again
Maybe summer doesn’t have to end
BRIDGE
Shine a light, in the darkness
Shine a light, on despair
Shine a light, through the window
Shine a light
Say a prayer
Dino’s at 500
The Rat Pack’s under cover
And Frank is flying in from the coast
On a balcony uptown
Some girl is really getting down
And taking off all of her clothes
Before the summer’s even over
They’ll be bringing in the wrecking machines
We’re already in the past
This wasn’t meant to last
It’s high or low but never in between
CHORUS
