about

The Fitzgerald quote was the jumping off point for this song. I saw it one day and it deeply resonated with me. With that as a starting point, I conjured up a lost romance and found some chords that were completely unfamiliar to me and remain so to this day. I'm very proud of this song and grateful that I have such talented friends. To be honest, I'm not sure where this came from but I'm glad it did.

lyrics

HUMAN

When I opened my eyes
They were full of tears
I must have been dreaming
About the wilderness years
But I'm not dreaming now
And my eyes are clear and bright
It's like I can see the future
And it's not a pretty sight

I wandered away
And left you in my wake
I took too much for granted
That wasn't mine to take

You were my life
At least that's how it felt
We made the best hand
From the cards we were dealt
Then a wise man said
Honey, we are all resplendent
Now I’m searching through the ashes
For just a remnant

We never had a chance
the distance was too far
now all that’s left is ether
and your bracelet in my car

But it’s like Fitzgerald said
We’re all just human
Drunk on the idea that love only love
Can heal our brokenness

Stay here I wish there was a way
Stay here I’ll wish it all away

Tomorrow comes
but today I’m going to rest
Whatever it is I did or didn’t do
I always did my best

But it’s like Fitzgerald said
We’re all just human
Drunk on the idea that love only love
Can heal our brokenness
Only love
Can heal our brokenness
Only love
Love
