about
This song was written a few years ago, and I recorded a demo of it. When we started work on the album we recognized that the demo captured some really good stuff, so we kept parts of it for the final recording.
Believe is full of apocalyptic imagery, but in the end it's a song about hope. Whatever I was feeling then, I'm feeling even more strongly now. It's certainly the most unusual song I've ever written.
lyrics
Something seems to happen in your eyes
Something that I've never seen before
Like the light through a window in the late afternoon
Or the opening of heaven's door
Something's going to happen in the sky
Something no one's ever seen before
It may be armageddon time
That prophet we've been waiting for
And I so want to believe
But time runs just like a thief
And something's tugging at my sleeve
And I can't shake it
If you look for me again this time tomorrow
You might find me packed and heading for the coast
I believe in ever after
The older I become
I remember childhood laughter
The rattle of a gun
Those nights out on the coast road
With my whole world in your hands
Radio filled the darkness baby
And we knew every band
And I so want to believe
We can all still be received
And there's a last chance for peace
This time in heaven
There's a blue moon rising over paradise this evening
It's eclipsed by the sun's blinding light
Now it's down to kingdom come
Now it's down to bone
Flashing through the heartland
Turning into stone
Flying over canyons
Never touching down
The ghosts of summer called out once
And then crumbled to the ground
And I so want to believe
In every dream I've ever dreamed
But I'm down on my knees
And I can't wake up
In the fading light you'll find me at the crossroads
I'll be looking west into the setting sun
